NECIC 2006 |
|
|
|
|
The first NECIC ( National Early Childhood Intervention
Conference ) carried the theme "Parents, Practitioners and Policy Makers in
Positive Partnership" and was held in Penang from 18th
to 20th November 2006. The conference’s
secretariat was Asia Community Service (Penang) with more
than twenty one non-government and not-for-profit
organisations around Malaysia and was in collaboration with
UNICEF, the Department of Social Welfare, Ministry of Women,
Family and Social Development, the Special Education
Department, Ministry of Education and the Division of Family
Health Development, Ministry of Health. The Guest of Honour
was YABhg. Datin Paduka Seri Rosmah Mansor, wife of YAB
Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia.
It was attended by more than three hundred and fifty local
participants, thirty local speakers and nine facilitators
from Australia, United Kingdom and Singapore. They presented
a total of forty five papers. Among others, the topics
covered included models and approaches in early childhood
intervention; screening, early detection and management;
meeting educational needs and how parents can take the lead.
A Memorandum of Early Childhood Intervention setting out the
objectives and future directions for early childhood
intervention services in Malaysia was adopted by the
delegates and was presented to their Guest of Honour, YABhg.

NECIC 2008 |
|
|
|
|
The second
NECIC is being held in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah from
19th to 22nd November 2008.
This includes two pre conference workshops. Persatuan
C.H.I.L.D. Sabah is Secretariat for this event.
The theme
for NECIC 2008 is “ Partners in Practice for Early
Therapeutic Intervention ”. With this theme,
Persatuan C.H.I.L.D. Sabah, together with more than
twenty four non-profit / not-for-profit organisations around
Malaysia, will work together to realise this event. NECIC
2008 is supported by agencies such as Ministry of Women,
Family and Social Development Malaysia, Department of Social
Welfare Malaysia, UNICEF, Ministry of Health, Ministry of
Community Development and Consumer Affairs Sabah and
Progressive Education Foundation Sabah. These agencies will
work together towards a successful and favourable conference
that hopes to create a better understanding of Early
Childhood Intervention.
At the end of the conference it is hoped that a monitoring
group will be set up to monitor the implementation and
effectiveness of various facilities of Early Childhood
Intervention Services in Malaysia. |
